How We Work

Our understanding of learning and how it occurs in adult learners drives our activities and defines the learning environment we create.

We define learning as the process of adding to one's repertoire of knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours, measured by a relatively permanent change in observable behaviour.

We recognise that learning is enhanced when it is relevant to daily life, and when something real is constructed and shared with others for critical feedback. Adult learners are highly selective in this - they look for specific applicability to themselves, and are motivated to internalise learning which is most relevant to their daily life.

We therefore provide opportunities for them to construct their own meaning on what is being learned, and to make action plans for its application back in their workplace.

The learning environment in which we operate offers choice. It caters for diversity of skill levels and learning styles; it's congenial and fun; and it encourages people to take those small risks needed to make changes to the way they do things back at work.

The importance of partnership, preparation and follow-up

The key to individual performance improvement is far more than a seminar or motivational session. It's a managed process. David Forman therefore seeks to establish a partnership with its clients - a commitment from each party to do what is needed to ensure that the training results in successful and measurable performance improvement.

The benefits of training accrue not only from the training session itself, but from what the participant and their manager do beforehand and afterwards. All David Forman seminars are preceded by preparatory work, and followed up with a review process using assignments or projects. We provide the structure and processing of these, whilst managers are asked to provide ongoing support and coaching for their participant. This will ensure that learning is reinforced and put into practice, and that it results in maximum value for your investment.

Strong operational support

All David Forman seminars are managed internally from start to finish with a strong operations team managing all material creation, travel, finance and venues. Post seminar transfer assignments are marked, the results tabulated, and reported back to the organization. In any given year, over 4000 transfer assignments may be processed. David Forman has a dedicated operations manager looking after this aspect of the business. All customers are assigned a team of experienced personnel to service all their training requirements, with Account Managers working alongside our Consultant Tutors to ensure the best results.
